May’s Place is rooted in history, tradition, family and community. We chose the name to pay homage to the tavern and general store that Andy’s great grandfather opened in Merced, California in the 1930s. We are very grateful to have been passed down the May’s Place sign that hung on the original establishment and now has a place in ours.
There’s no sense in denying that things just aren’t made the way they used to be. There is a really tangible quality in vintage and antique pieces because they were built to last, generally by craftsman who specialized in their art. This sentiment is being lost in today’s consumer culture. We want to bring an appreciation for this level of hand made craftsmanship to a new generation of collectors.
Anything we carry that’s not antique or vintage is all made here in Saint Louis by local artisans. We strongly believe in supporting our local community and think that buying local is one of the most sustainable choices you can make!
