Celebrating Six Years Of Sustainable Style

There’s no way around it… the last year has been hard. Our door has thankfully continued to stay open, but navigating the uncertainty of these times has been challenging to say the least. One thing that has stayed consistent over the last 6 years is that you all continue to enthusiastically show up in support of our mission of sustainability, empowerment and community, and for that we could not be more grateful.

When May’s Place opened in 2015, we started as a general store concept offering vintage and antique furniture, home goods and locally made items with a small assortment of my vintage clothing collection, then under the label BLACKSHEEP Vintage. As time went on, I slowly filled the shop with more and more clothing as the demand clearly outpaced that of the home goods, and now we are almost exclusively a vintage clothing boutique.

Today, it’s an honor and a privilege to curate a vintage collection full of standout, show stopping pieces worn proudly by some of the most stylish, creative, and  inspiring people I’ve ever met! I will never get over seeing someone light up when they try on something from the shop that makes them feel beautiful, powerful and confident - the kind of joy that radiates out of someone when they know that what they’re wearing is the perfect embodiment of who they are, or who who they want to be. We’ll continue to focus our energy on finding vintage pieces as unique and beautiful as our customers, while also working on expanding our offering of slow fashion garments hand made by local designers like the newest addition to the May’s offering, Brick City Thrift who creates plus size vintage inspired garments from reclaimed materials.

We also can’t recap the last year without mentioning the explosive reboot of our humble Night Market. We were so grateful to be able to bring back this crowd favorite after a year without gathering at all. We were sad to see the Ready Room didn’t survive the storm, but were very grateful to City Foundry for allowing the use of their space that aligns so well with our passion for what’s possible for this city. You all turned out in a way I couldn’t have imagined and now we’re working hard to continue to deliver the best possible experience for our December 3rd event.

As a collective, we’re on this new frontier of figuring out what the future looks like. Together, we are creating the type of world we want to see with the choices we make everyday. Are we kind or cold? Are we lifting people up or leaving people out? Are we honoring our truths or giving into fear? Are we supporting our local businesses and growing our local economy or pumping our hard earned dollars into the exploitive, self-serving machine of big business? I personally have a great deal of hope as people continue to wake up to their power and open their hearts to empathy. No matter what the future holds, we will continue to pursue a more sustainable fashion system, empower our customers to step into their power and face the world with confidence, and build community around living with intention, in support of our local economy.

Thank you so much for being on this journey with us! Don’t miss our huge Anniversary Sale this weekend where we show our appreciation with up to 50% off the whole collection! We are so humbled and grateful that you’re here and look forward to serving you for many years to come.

Peace + Love,

Katie May & the May’s Place Team
