Meet Jessica - Our Summer Intern!

We have an intern, ya’ll! Her name is Jessica Michelle, she’s a 26-year-old senior at Fontbonne University majoring in Fashion Merchandising. We will be having her on for the summer to learn the ropes of sustainable fashion, and we want you to meet her.

Tell us about yourself: What are you hobbies? What are your passions?

My first passion is music! I swear I wanted to be Beyoncé when I got out of high school but the higher power had other plans with me. I still write music and record myself often. My hobbies are recreating clothes, or creating things in general, and honestly just anything fun.

Tell us about your interest in fashion: Where did it start?

As a young girl I used to watch my grandmother dress her and my grandpa for events and night outs. They would always be matching each other in some way or another. My grandma would add her own twist to her style to make sure she stayed unique in her ways. I admired that about her, and then boom I began my journey with fashion...of course starting with dress up parties in her closet.

What is your dream job?

I would really love to be an artist, performing and showing off my dance moves. But as I started to move towards the beauty industry I decided to create my own beauty shop with hair, nails and skin treatments with a boutique connected to it. I like to think of it as you getting all services in one place.

Why did you reach out for a May’s Place internship?

I reached out to May’s Place because I had never seen such creativity in a vintage boutique. May’s place has a very fun way in showing off their chic vintage fashion . From photography, to styling and being sustainable I figured this would be an awesome place to  build my skills in the fashion industry or the business side of things in general.

Who influences your personal style?

Janelle Monae and Leonie Hanne are my top two fashion influencers of my personal style.

What do you think about when you get dressed in the morning?

Honestly I dress how I feel, which always changes. Whatever I wear has to go with my hair for sure, I’ve been recently thinking about switching my style up and mixing the 70s/80s look into my wardrobe.

Keep an eye out for more from Jessica as she explores the different avenues of how we do things at May’s Place! Interested in interning at May’s Place? Send us an email!
